The fastest Fleet train reaches Waterloo in 42 minutes and an annual season costs £5,192. Times from Fleet, Hook and Winchfield, fares and the last train.

If you live in Fleet and work in London, the train is most of the reason the houses cost what they do. Fleet sits on South Western Railway’s South West Main Line, the fast route from Waterloo through Woking to Basingstoke, and the quickest weekday train from platform one reaches London Waterloo in 42 minutes.

Hart has three stations on that line, Fleet, Winchfield and Hook, and one more at Blackwater that goes somewhere else entirely. This page sets out the real journey times from each, what a season ticket costs in 2026, the walk-up fares, and the last train home, with a source link for every figure.

Season prices are for a standard-class annual season to London Terminals, quoted by Trainline in August 2026. Journey times are the fastest weekday services on traintimes.org.uk, which carries the National Rail timetable.

Fleet: the fast one

The best weekday train is the 06:55, into Waterloo at 07:37, which is 42 minutes. The 07:22 does it in 45 and the 07:10 in 47. Later in the morning the 07:46 takes 53, because it stops more. If you are not tied to the peak, the middle of the day is faster than the rush: the 13:25 reaches Waterloo at 14:05, 40 minutes, and the 12:23 does it in 41.

Off-peak, Fleet gets two or three trains an hour to Waterloo. Around midday the pattern runs 12:10, 12:23 and 12:40, then 13:10 and 13:25, so a wait of much more than twenty minutes is unusual.

The first train of the day is the 05:10, into Waterloo at 06:11. Coming home, the last train from Waterloo to Fleet is the 23:35, arriving 00:20, and there is nothing after it. Miss that and the next departure from Waterloo is the 05:18 the following morning, which gets in at 06:08. That is worth knowing before you agree to one more drink after a show; the last train is not late by London standards.

Hook and Winchfield

Hook is eleven miles further out and it shows in the timetable rather than the season ticket. The fastest morning train is the 07:13, into Waterloo at 08:07, 54 minutes. After the peak, Hook settles into a clean two an hour at roughly two minutes past and half past: 08:02, 08:32, 09:01, 09:31, with the journey around an hour.

Winchfield, which is the small station between Hook and Fleet serving Hartley Wintney and the surrounding villages, is a little quicker than Hook despite being on the same line, because the trains that call there skip differently. The 08:06 reaches Waterloo at 09:01, 55 minutes. Off-peak it thins out to about one an hour, with the 09:05, 10:05 and so on.

Here is the part that catches people out. A walk-up Anytime Day Single from Hook costs £28.50 against £22.10 from Fleet, which is 29% more for the extra eleven miles. But the annual season from Hook is £5,404 against £5,192 from Fleet, which is only 4% more. If you commute five days a week the difference between living in Hook and living in Fleet costs you £212 a year on the train. If you go in twice a week on walk-up tickets, it costs you far more, proportionally.

Add a Zones 1 to 6 Travelcard to the Fleet season and it becomes £6,328, a further £1,136 a year for the Tube and buses. Blackwater is not on this line. It has no direct London train and runs to Waterloo via a change at Guildford in about 1h 08. Bars show the fastest weekday service, not the typical one; most Fleet trains take 45 to 55 minutes.
The season ticket barely notices the extra eleven miles from Hook. The walk-up fare does.

What the tickets cost

Fleet to London standard-class fares, August 2026
TicketPrice
Anytime Day Single£22.10
Anytime Day Return£42.60
Off-Peak Day Return£32.00
Anytime Day Travelcard£56.80
Weekly season, London Terminals£129.80
Monthly season, London Terminals£498.50
Annual season, London Terminals£5,192.00
Annual season plus Travelcard Zones 1 to 6£6,328.00

The arithmetic on the annual season is straightforward. At £5,192 against an Anytime Day Return of £42.60, it breaks even at about 122 return journeys, so it wins outright if you travel two and a half days a week or more, and it loses if you go in twice a week and buy Off-Peak Day Returns. There is a middle option worth pricing yourself: Flexi Season tickets, which suit two or three days a week and are sold by the operator rather than by the day.

Two of the Fleet season options are variations you should not buy by accident. There is a slightly dearer version at £5,272 valid only via London Terminals and not on the Underground or Elizabeth line, and versions at £5,504 and £5,560 that add travel to or from Frimley and Farnham respectively. Unless you actually need Frimley or Farnham, the £5,192 ticket is the one.

Blackwater is a different railway

Blackwater station, at the north-east corner of the district next to Yateley, is not on the main line at all. It sits on the cross-country route through Guildford, and there is no direct train to London from it. The journey to Waterloo means changing at Guildford or Ascot and takes about 1 hour 8 minutes at best, with an Anytime Day Return of £40.20 on the Ascot and Guildford route.

For Yateley and Blackwater residents heading into town, driving or taking a bus to Fleet station is often quicker than using the station on the doorstep. That is worth checking against the traffic, because Fleet’s town centre has gas mains works running through the autumn.

Driving to the station and parking

If you drive in rather than walk, Hart District Council runs the long-stay parking in Fleet town centre and sells season tickets for it. The Church Road and Victoria Road car parks cost £2.40 for up to four hours and £8.00 for up to ten, which is the band a commuter needs, or £9.00 for 24 hours. A Monday to Friday annual season ticket for those two car parks is £1,013, with a quarter at £297 and a calendar month at £117.

Put that beside the train and a five-day Fleet commute costs £6,205 a year before you have bought a coffee. Season tickets are also sold for the council car parks at Blackwater, Hook, Odiham and Hartley Wintney; Blackwater’s Monday to Friday annual is £900. All the council car parks are pay and display, take coins and cards, accept payment through the MiPermit app, and are free to Blue Badge holders in any marked bay.

Note that Church Road is due to be closed between Elvetham Road and Gough Road from 17 August 2026 for gas works, so check the roadworks page before you rely on that car park in the autumn. The station itself has its own car park operated by the train company, priced separately from the council’s.
